Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.

— Unknown —

Many years ago I was introduced to the acronym/title for this post…”Do What You Say You Will Do.”  I learned that the key to living a life of integrity was keeping my word to not just others, but especially to myself.

My actions leading up to my crash and burn had very little integrity attached to them.  I was raised knowing the difference between right and wrong but my addiction took away almost any care I had about doing right.  I just did whatever I needed to do in order to get my next fix.

Recovery taught me the importance of keeping my word.  One of my first sobriety tokens I received said, “To Thine Own Self Be True.”

If we aren’t true to ourselves, we will not be true to others.  If we don’t keep our word to ourselves, we will not keep our word to others.

Talking the talk is cheap.  Walking the walk is invaluable…I write from experience.
