Faith

Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:3, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

There is a bunch of crap going on in the world today and I am so grateful for my faith.

The U.S. and world economy is teetering on implosion.  We’ve witnessed more natural disasters and tragedies over the past 10 years than ever before (at least in my lifetime).  I’ve also been hit very closely with the deaths of friends as well family members and friends being diagnosed with and battling serious illnesses.

Several years ago my pastor Mike Slaughter got on this bandwagon of reminding us we were going to die and that we better get ready.  I don’t know about you but I’ve thought  a lot more about death in the past decade than ever before.  And I am ready.  In fact life becomes so much more enjoyable because once we accept the teachings in The Good Book and attempt to follow Jesus’ direction, we get to experience the fruits of eternal life before we die.  Let me restate that…once we make a commitment to follow Jesus’ teachings to the best of our ability, we do not have to wait to die in order to reap the benefits of eternal life.

We begin to experience peace no matter how intense the storms are in our life, we value our relationships with others more than we value our possessions, we forgive those we once thought were unforgiveable, we accept those we once despised, we listen more and talk less, we love more and hate less, we see beauty in the middle of ugligness, light where there was once darkness.  I could go on and on as I am simply stating some of the many changes I’ve witnessed in my personal journey since I began trying to follow the teachings of Jesus.

And at the end of the day, if I am wrong and my faith was nothing more than something I picked up from a lunatic and a liar (Jesus…if what he did and taught was not true), then I am still a better person because of it.

If your struggling right now, get into the Good Book and work on your faith.
