In Search of Truth, Freedom and Peace

The wisest people I know have a lot more questions than opinions and answers.

November is gratitude month and today is Veteran’s Day.  I don’t know about you, but this day always causes me to pause and reflect and be thankful for the men and women who’ve put their lives at stake to protect our freedoms.  My Dad is a very proud yet humble veteran.

Thank you Veterans!

imageThis time of pause and reflection coupled with the gratitude I have for my freedoms, caused me to go deep in thought with regard to our most recent Presidential election.

Our country has its flaws as does everyone living in it and of course we all know the flaws of our new President and his former opponent.

The new normal of running for President of the United States is the American people will be exposed to ALL the bad stuff with regard to the candidates’ past.  This sucks, but it’s the world we live in.

I can only imagine what this race would have been like if the media spent all of it’s time sharing the great things Trump and Clinton had done with their lives.  But as the great journalist Ron Burgundy observed in the 1980’s, people will watch the news 24 hours a day if you make it bad enough to watch.

Did this Presidential election make you wonder what it would have been like if social media was around when Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and Kennedy ran for President?  Was “Honest Abe” really that honest?

Throughout this election process I’ve observed some extreme emotions-turned into words coming from my friends on social media.

This brings me to the core of this blog thought…

Is there any greater human endeavor than the search for truth?

Opinions or the need to have an opinion often create roadblocks in our journey to find truth.

Every time we waive the need to have an opinion, our ability to find truth is enhanced.

The wisest people I know have a lot more questions than answers or opinions.

Maybe, just maybe, truth is found in Love…not selective, lower case love, but agape, all encompassing, upper case Love.

Sometimes the most challenging and confusing aspect of searching for truth and love is there seems to be no end.  Will we ever “arrive?”  This is a question I quit asking many years ago.

The more we search, the deeper our lives grow.  When I am able to accept the infinite and all encompassing existence of truth and love, I am able to find peace no matter what the situation and/or who leads me as President.

For me, the search for truth and Love is a daily walk…some days are better than others.

Once again, thanks Veterans!  Your sacrifice gives ordinary people like me the ability to write openly and freely about my observations.
