Pictures Part 1

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

— Albert Einstein —

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”  ~Albert Einstein

Throughout this time of looking at various readings from my FEAR-PROOF book, I’ve often encouraged you to picture what living without fear would look like.  As human beings, we are the only animal God has blessed with the gift of imagination.

My two dogs do not have the ability to picture and imagine how they can change the world or at a minimum how they can change their own little worlds.  They sit around all day waiting for their next meal, someone to play with, something to bark at, or on a really good day, a squirrel or two to chase.

I love Einstein’s quote.  Our imaginations have powers well beyond our comprehension.

Approximately twenty-nine years ago I had no ability to picture anything.  I was simply focused on getting my next fix.  Prescription pain pills had taken me to my knees and was coming real close to taking my life.

Then through the miraculous powers of God and a wife who stood up to my disease like David stood up to Goliath, I ended up in a chemical dependency center.

After a few weeks in the treatment center my brain began to thaw out and it was at that time my counselor had me do some homework.  She told me to find a quiet place and picture what my life would look like in twenty years if I had been clean and sober the entire time.

I remember picturing having a loving and solid relationship with my wife and being a great dad to our kids.  I pictured being a good son, son-in-law, brother and friend.  In essence I was picturing everything I had allowed my addiction to steal from me.

More to follow tomorrow…
