We continue to reflect on excerpts from my book FEAR-PROOF as we study the Mental component of our Wheel of Life. As our thoughts go, so goes our life…
“Any belief worth having must survive doubt.” ~Unknown
The devil loves to mess with those who doubt there is a God.
I’ve always said straddling the fence with your faith is the worst place to be as it is not only painful to your crotch, but it creates an opportunity for the devil to get you to doubt his biggest nemesis–God.
As far as faith goes, you are either in or you’re out; there is no such thing as faith in-between. How can anyone have a “little bit” of faith?
The best way to overcome doubt with God (I still have my “moments” but moments are better than days, weeks, months and years) is to try to find Him in all situations.
A few years ago a friend of mine’s home had been leveled by a tornado. On top of that, his Dad’s life had been taken by the tornado. I decided to go lend my friend a hand and my emotions and thoughts were all over the place as I approached the slab a home once stood on. I can remember thinking, “Where is God in all of this?”
Then, about thirty minutes later out came a group of people all dressed in orange shirts with “Samaritan’s Purse†written on them. They had come from all over the United States to help the tornado victims. Upon arrival they formed a circle in prayer, made some decisions that gave them direction and they worked and worked and worked. Throughout the day the Red Cross, The Salvation Army and many other concerned citizens stopped by and dropped off water and food.
I had never felt so much love on a one acre lot in my entire life.
God was there as He always is.
James 1:5-8 (NIV), “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. Those who doubt should not think they will receive anything from the Lord; they are double-minded and unstable in all they do.”
Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:Â James 1:6, Jude 1:22, Matthew 14:31
What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with having doubt in God?
