Fear & Arrogance

Tell enough people how great you are and eventually you won’t have anyone to tell.

God at Center-Mental PPTOver the next few weeks we will be studying excerpts from my book, “FEAR – PROOF” as we look at how damaging fear can be to the Mental component of our Wheel of Life.

Tell enough people how great you are and eventually you won’t have anyone to tell.

I’m sure you can think of someone in your life who seems to be full of himself.

Being full of ourselves internally manifests itself externally through behavior such as boasting, bullying and making sure people know just how good we are.

The need to make sure everyone knows how great we are derives from having a poor self image which is born out of fear of not being good enough.

If we are good at what we do, we don’t have to tell anyone.  They will see it in the way we live our lives.

I am certain when it is all said and done God will not care how much money we had, how big our house was, what type of car we drove, how successful our professional career was,  how many books we wrote, how many degrees we earned and how many awards we accumulated over the years.  I have a feeling God simply wants to know how many people we’ve helped and how much we’ve positively impacted His world.

The opposite of arrogance is humility.  There was no greater example of humility than Jesus and He tells us how being humble will give us the entire world in Matthew 5:5, “Blessed are the meek:  for they shall inherit the earth.”

Meek doesn’t mean we are to walk through life like pansies without courage, drive and energy.  I believe meek to Jesus means journeying through life boldly with Him at our center instead of ourselves.  To me this means, my life needs to be more about Him than it is about myself…easier said than done.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV), “This is what the Lord says:  ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let those who boast, boast about this: that they understand and know me.'”

Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:  Proverbs 27:1, Jude 1:16-25, Matthew 6:1-4, Matthew 5:5

What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with puffing yourself up?
