Â
It was family week at Greene Hall Chemical Dependency Center back in the summer of 1987, (and no I wasn’t on staff there I was a patient) and one of the counselors, “Jeff” had our family go through an exercise I will never forget.
He had my family create a circle around me. We were all sitting in chairs. He then asked me to stand on my chair and slowly take a look at my family who was looking up at me; which I did.
He then asked me how I felt and whether or not I like being looked up to. I said “no, I don’t like this feeling.”
He then asked me to move to where I felt like I should be. So I got down off of my chair and pulled it into the circle with the rest of my family and sat down.
Jeff then looked at me and said, “I don’t believe that is where you are supposed to be.”
I looked at him and told him he was wrong. He then moved on to another exercise.
This story is going somewhere, I promise…more to follow tomorrow.
Read the opening quote again.
Do you know what gifts your Creator has given to you?
Do you know what your strengths are?
Are you using your gifts and strengths to maximize your purpose?

Romans 12:6-8, “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy; cheerfulness.” (ESV)
