Fathers…

Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.  Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.”

Since the day I became a Father (June 16, 1983), I’ve learned hundreds of lessons on the do’s and don’ts of Fathering.  Today I thought I would share my top three “do’s” and my number one “don’t” with you Fathers out there.

1.  Do turn your kids over to God and ask for his protection and provision for their lives every day.

2.  Do be present in your children’s lives and that doesn’t necessarily mean physically as there will be times they view you as having the bubonic plague when you are in their presence.  More importantly, be present mentally and spiritually.  Mentally by being engaged, interested and understanding of what it going on with their lives and spiritually by being the father God wants you to be.

3.  Do allow your “release” of your children to be greater than your “grip.”  For it is through the act of releasing where your children not only better learn and grow and become their own people; but it is through the “release” where God’s grip can become greater in your children’s lives.  Letting go and letting God is a very good thing.

Do…NOT think it is too late to become a good father.  With the help of God anything is possible…take it from me.

Happy Father’s Day!
