A few posts back I said I would be talking about depression this weekend at The Next Step at Ginghamsburg Church. I’ve had a change in plans and will not be talking about depression. The Lord has laid something else on my heart. Thought I would let my handful of eaglelaunch blog readers know if you were planning on coming to church this Saturday evening.
I received a call from a recovery friend tonight and we were talking about the dangers of trading addictions. Many times we get clean and before we know it we are off into another dangerous addiction. Believe me, I know this for a fact, if you are an addict it means you have the ability to become addicted to anything that is addicting. But even more dangerous is the fact that the new addiction could trigger off the craving for your addiction of choice (when I say addiction I am including alcoholism).
A couple of reasons this happens is because we have not gotten honest with ourselves by doing a personal inventory (Steps 4 and 5 of the 12 Steps) or because we are not maintaining our honesty by honestly reviewing our behavior on a daily basis (Step 10). I will be talking more about this on Saturday night. I am a big supporter of the 12 Steps and I believe combining them with a relationship with Jesus Christ creates a solid recovery program and a life of peace, joy and happiness.
If you would like to know more about the 12 Steps I recommend purchasing “Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions” which is the 12 Step handbook written by a co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. There are other 12 Step books out there but this was the first one written. The 12 Steps can help you overcome anything that is standing in the way of having a real relationship with Jesus Christ.
