“ITS”

Joshua 1:9, “This is my command–be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid or discouraged.  For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

A couple of days ago I received an email update from a dear friend who is fighting cancer.  She is fighting a difficult battle and was quite candid in her email about the situation.  At one point in her email she writes,  “If any of you are crying, stop!  I’m over it.  It is what it is!  I am happy to wake up every day and enjoy life.”

That sentence caused me to pause and think about the “ITS” in my life that often distract me from the important things like simply waking up and enjoying life.  “ITS” come in all shapes and forms and sizes and most of the time they come from our past.  The devil loves to get us stuck in our “ITS.”

If we don’t deal with our “ITS” they will deal with us.  Take the advice of my friend and name the “IT” in your life and choose to do whatever you need to do to break free from “IT.”  The recovery community has a simple slogan when dealing with our “IT’S”; Name it, Claim it, Dump it.

…the first key in being able to dump your “ITS” is to have a relationship with God, who is so big and so strong and so enormous; he will take every “IT” you hand to him…sometimes we need to hand our “ITS”  over to him daily until eventually we quit taking them back.

The comforting thing about this situation is my friend knows Christ and thus exudes a feeling of peace as she walks this path she is on in her life.  She ends her email by asking any of us that pray to pray for courage and strength for her, which has been her mantra over the past couple of years while dealing with “it.”
