Crushing Fear – Day 1

The devil has no power...except in the dark.

DSC_8138Today is Ash Wednesday and it is the beginning of Lent (47 days leading to Easter).  If you have no understanding of Lent and its meaning, no problems.  Anyone with a desire to improve will benefit from this Lenten journey.

Personally, Lent is a time where I try to grow closer in my relationship with God by eliminating unhealthy external factors.

One of the most debilitating external factors we all encounter is fear.

As I’ve done a couple of times in the past, my Lenten blogs will be focused on conquering fear which is one of the devil’s favorite tools in his quest to separate us from the amazing powers of God.

Fear is often at the root of most character defects.

Fear gets us to not try, to not trust, to second guess, to control, to manipulate, to compare ourselves to others, to seek escapes through various addictions, to hold resentments, to hate, to worry, to stress, to give up, to feel inferior, to profess to know it all, to be judgmental, to be controlled by anger, to be easily offended, to get us to feel sorry for ourselves…the list could go on and on and on.

Fear is easily countered by God but the devil somehow convinces us we have no character defects, or they aren’t that bad, or we are so bad we are not worthy of God’s protection and strength or we have a right to be angry, miserable, helpless etc…

Conquering fear (the devil) is a process, not an event…I write from experience.

From today through April 1, we will confront the various faces of fear by shining His light on it.

John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’.”

P.S. If you know someone who might benefit from walking with us on this Lenten journey, please forward these posts to them.
