Let go AND GROW
November 20th, 2008
Being in recovery and following Jesus has taught me many things. But one of the greatest gifts I have received is the ongoing willingness to grow. At some point in my recovery I finally figured out that “comfortable” meant I was being lazy and not growing. God would have another adventure in store and I would start losing serenity and struggling with it because I was finally feeling comfortable and had a routine down. Can anyone relate to this?
We cannot grow if we don’t let go. What we are holding on to is usually something that has taken place in the past or something we think is going to take place in the future. This is all fear based and what happens in turn is we do nothing about the present. Oh yeah, fear is of the devil…go figure.
I learned in my athletic and business ventures a long time ago if I wasn’t moving forward and trying to get better, then I was going backwards, the same holds true for our Christian lives. Ask yourself this question every day “Where does God want me to go and what do I need to let go of in order to get there?”
This “blog thought” came to mind this morning as I was reading Exodus 3:15-4:17. Moses was comfortable and God got him out of his comfort zone.
Bono said it best in “Stuck in the Moment”….You’ve got to get yourself together you’ve got stuck in the moment and you can’t get out of it.
If you find yourself “stuck in the moment” ask God for the willingness to to let go so you can grow.
