People only see what they are prepared to see.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson —

I like this quote by Emerson as I also believe there are some of us who only want to see what we want to see (i.e. denial).  A couple of keys to personal growth is to always have more questions than answers and having people in our lives who’ve seen beyond what we are prepared to see.

Who is mentoring you today?

Is it someone who admires you and looks up to you and agrees with everything you say or is it someone who in some ways annoys you and kicks you in the butt more often than not?

Key qualities of a mentor:

1.  They’ve been where you are trying to go.

2.  They have the same guiding principles as you do.

3.  They are as happy about your success as you are.

4.  They very seldom tell you how great they are.

5.  They always stretch your perspective and get you to see beyond your current circumstance.

6.  They will kick you in the butt and you will thank them for it.

In other words surround yourself with winners.
