Distressed, Depressed or at Rest

If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest.

— Corrie Ten Boom —

I remember when I was living the first two sentences of this quote..

I was always caught up in the world and what was going on around me and depression  and anxiety would come and go like the wind because I was way too dependent on the world for my state of mind.

Then I began to live for the gifts a relationship with Jesus gave me:

The gift of forgiveness for all my screw-ups was a great start….shame and guilt could no longer depress me.

The gift of everlasting life gave me something to live and die for…no longer living for the world helped remove my distress and anxiety.

The gift of the Holy Spirit gave me a Power to connect to in order to help me live a better life…suddenly right-acting days began to out number my wrong-acting (sin) days.

The gift of love which is not worth a darn unless it is shared…being called to love one another and doing it creates a peace which surpasses all understanding.

This is a daily walk for me and is why I tap into Jesus and his awesome gifts and powers early and often every day.

How are you today?  Distressed, depressed or at rest?

…it’s your choice

1 John 2:15-17, “Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If you love the world, love for the Father is not in you.  For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful people, the lust of their eyes and their boasting about what they have and do–comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
