A Discipline*

“The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy.”  ~Henri JM Nouwen

So true!

Notice the word discipline in Mr. Nouwen’s quote above.

In essence, developing an attitude of gratitude requires a willingness to part from the normal path created by the world and instead focus on the path God has created for us and choose to be grateful for it.  Developing this discipline will give us the strength we need to overcome the opposition and his attempts to get us to discount and cheapen our own God-given gifts by luring us into desiring what we do not need.

A grateful heart without “want” is a heart God “wants” and will be filled plentifully with what God knows it needs…
