Crushing Fear – Day 23 – Negative Thinking

DSC_8138Whether we think positive and effective thoughts or negative and destructive thoughts is a choice.

I always had a natural disposition to look at the world as being a glass half empty until I emptied my world completely by the time I was 28 years old.

I remember reading Norman Vincent Peale’s book, “The Power of Positive Thinking,” during my early years of recovery.

In his book, Peale detailed a state of mind referred to as the self-fulfilling prophecy.  In essence, we become what we think.

If you…

  • Think solutions-you will find solutions.
  • Think problems-you will find problems.
  • Think health-you will find health.
  • Think sickness-you will find sickness.
  • Think positive-you will find positive.
  • Think negative-you will find negative.
  • Think abundantly-you will find abundance.
  • Think scarcity-you will find scarcity.

Etc…

God (faith) wants us to view the world from a positive perspective which brings energy into our lives as well as the people we interact with.  The devil (fear) wants us to view the world from a negative perspective which drains energy from our lives as well as from the people we interact with.

If you struggle with living in negativity a great place to start is by loving God and living in your God-purpose on a daily basis; “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”  (Romans 8:28)

A nice addition to loving God and living your God purpose is memorizing the scripture below and talking at negativity with it every time the devil tries to suck you into his unproductive way of thinking.

Philippians 4:8: “Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”
