Purpose & Foundation

What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?

— (Matthew 9:25, MSG) —

“So why am I here?” Is a question most of us eventually asks ourselves and/or our Creator.

In the previous days I challenged you to take time to reflect on questions around “Whose” you are, who you don’t want to be, and who you are.

Knowing the answers to these questions will assist you in creating clarity around your Purpose and once you are able to get your Purpose nailed down it is much easier to create a Vision (dream with a plan) for your life.

I developed the StratField Leadership Process ™ to assist people in designing a playing field for their lives as I believe far too many people live their lives by default and not be design.

You will notice the word Purpose, in the lower end zone of the playing field while Vision is located in the upper end zone of the playing field.

Our life Purpose is foundational to who we are and creates a “push” type of energy to support and propel us up our life playing field, while our Vision creates an energy which serves as a “pull.”StratField Personal Playing Field (blue letters)

My experience has proven to me that in order to have peace throughout our life journey (peace does not mean there will not be challenges), it is vitally important that everything we do is grounded in our Purpose and thus the reason I’m spending so much time in helping you gain clarity around it.

I can remember when my life Vision was all about becoming wealthy and having “things.”

Without knowing and claiming my Purpose and being in touch with my Guiding Principles (tomorrow’s study) my goals and actions were not aligned with my true beliefs and who or Whose I was.  In essence I was trying to live on two different playing fields…Jay’s playing field and the one God wanted me to play on…not a good place to be.

Quite frankly, when the dream for our life is not built upon and grounded in our Purpose there will be significant friction and friction leads to frustration and frustration leads to stress and stress leads to physical and emotional problems which led me to drugs and alcohol.

Take a moment to pray and reflect on why you believe God created you.

Write some thoughts in your journal about why you believe you exist.

Take a stab at drawing your playing field and note what you believe your Purpose is in the lower end zone.  And if you don’t know what it is, that’s OK this is a process, not an event.

You are beginning to live your life by design instead of default.
