Monday Morning Leadership-What’s Your Read?

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

Books

One of several book cases in our house.

Yesterday morning I “treated” myself to a long Father’s Day run while listening to the book, “Mutlipliers,” by Liz Wiseman.

“Multipliers” is a great book about leadership that my daughter turned me on to.

I am a life-long student of leadership.  I’ve read or listened to a few hundred books on, in, and around the topic of leadership.

I agree with John Maxwell’s view on leadership when he says, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.”

Beginning today, the focus of my Monday blogs will be leadership.  I have several leaders who read my blog and thought this would be a great way to challenge my leader-friends, first thing out of the gate every week.

Leadership is a topic we can all benefit from whether we are leading an organization, a small group, or simply leading our own lives.  Everything certainly does rise and fall with leadership.

Monday Morning Leadership Thought:

A key trait I see in all great leaders is they are life-long learners.  Personally, I hate to read, but I love to learn and grow, so I read or I listen to books every day.

Listening to books makes running ten miles or biking fifty miles go a lot faster…sort of. 🙂

I usually have three to four books “going on” all the time.  My current leadership “reads” include:

  • Essentialism, by Greg McKeown…(My kids got me this book for Father’s Day…go figure.)
  • Mindset, by Carol Dweck
  • Multipliers, by Liz Wiseman
  • Emotional Agility, by Susan David
  • Breathing Under Water, by Richard Rohr…(12 Step-Christian recovery based)

Additional books I’ve read recently and would highly recommend:

  • Resilience, Hard-Won Wisdom for Living a Better Life, by Eric Greitens
  • Leadership is an Art, by Max DePree
  • Lifeness-Harmonize an Entrepreneurial Life, by Tom Rubens (my friend and colleague)
  • Extreme Ownership, by Willink and Babin
  • No Limits, by John Maxwell
  • The Power of the Other, by Henry Cloud
  • A Leader’s Legacy, by Kouzes and Posner

The top two leadership books ever written (my opinion); which I’ve read each of them multiple times:

  • #1-The Leadership Challenge, by Kouzes and Posner–the reason it is the absolute best, is everything they write about is supported by data and facts.  If you want to lead others well, follow their road map.
  • #2-The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephan Covey–it is the best personal leadership book I’ve ever read.  If you want to lead yourself well, follow Covey’s road map.

Please feel free to shoot me an email with any recent books you’ve read and think I would like.

Commit to making this your best week of leadership ever…pick up a book, read, learn, grow and pass it on!

Proverbs 1:5, Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,

Proverbs 18:15, An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
